Coachman started off his WWE career as an interviewer, commentator and presenter who became known for segments with The Rock who would berate and insult Coachman for the amusement of the audience. Creative decided to make Coachman a heel authority figure under the general manager Eric Bischoff, who then began feuding with Vince's son Shane McMahon. Coachman became a hit as fans loved to hate him, but Coachman also proved him self an able commentator and general manager. While Coachman had a fairly successful career, as good as a non-wrestler could hope for, he still went on to arguably bigger things afterwards. Coachman's original reason for leaving the WWE was due to ESPN showing interest in him, after getting the go ahead from Vince to vacate his contract, Coachman signed with ESPN mere months after leaving wrestling. Legitimate sports coverage and commentary is no doubt a bigger calling than being an on-screen figure in televised wrestling, but Coachman probably got his position due to the amount of dedication and involvement he showed in his stint in the WWE. Coach could possibly be about to have his cake and eat it too, as there are rumours floating around which imply that Coach might sign a new deal with the WWE and work for both Vince and ESPN.
