8 Things We Learned From Austin Aries On The Ross Report

4. Being A Professional Wrestling Vegan Isn't So Tough

Aries' veganism is fairly well-documented, and Aries himself is the first to admit that he certainly isn't what would be described as a 'hardcore vegan'. Sure, he follows a plant-based diet, but his wrestling boots are made of leather after all. You can't be a hardcore vegan in most walks of life, let alone professional wrestling.

Aries is asked where he gets his protein from with his diet, and his response is as confident as it is impressive. Aries claims (with some conviction) that we may not need as much protein as we are conditioned to believe, and his way of dealing with finding protein is simple; eat more food.

'Some guys carry around packets of tuna, I carry around packets of lentils'. Aries talks of going to steakhouses with his colleagues and ordering a salad, then adding his own lentils on top. He also speaks of the power of condiments, and he speaks with such passion that I myself almost became a vegan at the end of it.

Almost.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
