Even when segments of the show are booked with a sense of uniqueness, they usually come across as silly rather than groundbreaking. WWE seems to equate its PG rating with cartoonish acts of one-upmanship. Dean Ambrose booby-trapping Seth Rollins' briefcase with paint is a prime example of this, and is still often cited as evidence of Raw's downward spiral. Obviously the thrills of the Attitude Era can't be exactly replicated today - such is the changing landscape of popular culture - but WWE could at least regain some of its edge. Raw is geared to resemble an ultra-slick, highly professional sports show, but pro wrestling is supposed to be a genuine alternative to the NFL and NBA - not a cheap imitation of it.
