Heyman's time in charge of ECW made him into a sort of cult leader for the locker room. For all his lack of business expertise, he was the best in the business at motivating his troops, establishing an intimate camaraderie between some of the most wacky and destructive faces in the wrestling world. His now-legendary pre-show speech, delivered before Barely Legal - ECW's first ever pay per view - has gone down as one of the greatest pep-talks in the history of the business. Heyman addresses all the criticisms thrown at his promotion and encourages his wrestlers to prove the world wrong. His mocking remark that ECW was "too extreme" and "too wild" perfectly lampooned the thoughts of many in WWF and WCW at the time, who failed to realise the pioneering nature of the Philadelphia promotion - something the company's legions of loyal fans were all too aware of.
