In the spring and summer of 1999, The Ministry of Darkness was the new rage in WWE with its edgier presentation. For a moment, it felt as though the stable had the potential of sticking around long-term. That was until things got muddied up by The Corporation.

Stephanie McMahon was kidnapped and strapped to a demonic cross as Undertaker attempted to force her into a dark wedding, which would then see him gain control of WWE. Steve Austin was sympathetic toward Steph and volunteered his services to get her back. At this point, the story was riveting. What ensued derailed the entire thing.

Squeezing into the storyline, Shane McMahon revealed he was complicit in his sister's kidnapping. Soon after, Vince also revealed himself as the “higher power” behind The Ministery of Darkness.

The combination of factions became The Corporate Ministry, and everything about it was a disaster. The reveal of the McMahons calling the shots didn’t quite make sense. Why did they place so much effort merely to lure Austin into a trap? Did Vince forget he was the Chairman?

For months, fans invested in the storyline, and the payoff was a complete disappointment. The feud between The Ministry and ‘Stone Cold’ would have been more than sufficient, but then Shane and his daddy had to jump in, take center stage, and mess things up. In the legendary words of Jim Ross, "Ah, son of a b*tch."
