8 Times Shane McMahon Showed Up In WWE Just In Time To Make Things Worse
2. Taking Raw Underground –2020
After vanishing into the ether, Shane McMahon returned to WWE in 2020 to introduce Raw Underground. For years, the third hour of the flagship program has seen dwindling ratings. The gritty concept was yet another attempt to draw more viewers in. As we all know now, it didn’t work out.
The concept bombed hard. The shoot-style wrestling kind of was like WWE reinforcing the idea that wrestling is fake, and it hardly made sense to see a wrestler kicked ass during Underground after jobbing out during regular programming.
One might argue McMahon shouldn’t have been blamed, as he was a mere actor in the equation. Alas, the general idea was that Raw Underground was actually his brain-child, but he was never able to quite make sense of it for the regular viewers, let alone new ones.
The fights lacked consequence. The Hurt Business ran the show one moment and abandoned it the next. There were rules and then no rules. McMahon sweated all the time for no reason at all. The entire mess was scrapped, and once again, Shane disappeared into the abyss.
