8 Ups & 1 Down From Impact Wrestling (Jun 16)

3. Rivalry Reignited

The rivalry between Ace Austin and Eddie Edwards in the middle of 2019 was one of the best things the company produced in recent times. Ace and Eddie work tremendously together, regardless of the situation, but put them in a scenario that involves no rules, and they're bound to do wonderful things. Lo and behold, they did just that in their Street Fight main event.

A bit of repetition from the offset from earlier in the night, when Eddie attacked 'The One True Ace' from behind during his entrance, but that aside, the match was full of things we've never seen from the two before. It would have been incredibly easy for them to simply have the same type of match they had been involved in last year, so this was a welcome surprise. Although, that neckbreaker on the table leg could have been a lot worse than it looked. Ouch.

It was revealed on this episode that Reno Scum are now no longer affiliated with the former X Division Champion, leaving Ace without any potential backup here. Well, until Madman Fulton returned, chokeslammed Eddie Edwards twice, and allowed Ace to hit The Fold to win the bout.

While this column has been arguing for Fulton to break out as a singles star for a while now, this pairing with Ace can also work out for the best. When he was in oVe, Madman was more or less an afterthought. Here, he has a real chance to succeed to his maximum potential. It's very much an MJF/Wardlow situation - when Madman eventually snaps on Austin, it'll all be worth it.
