8 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Full Gear 2020

6. Purity Of Combat

Serena Deeb
AEW

First impression: Allysin Kay's entrance theme is too much of a banger to be used just once. Sign her, please.

Second impression: Allysin Kay is too good a wrestler to be used just once. Sign her, please.

Third impression: Serena Deeb is one of the best pure wrestlers in North America right now. Keep her forever, please.

This Buy In clash was an absolute joy for anyone looking for a pure, traditional wrestling experience. It was as crisp, clean, and competitive as everything Serena has done in AEW so far, and enhanced by an excellent dance partner in Kay, who more than held her own here. Allysin's "get off me!" when grabbing the rope to break a submission hold brought the fire out in her after she'd struggled through the early grappling exchanges. She leapt up, started talking sh*t, and slapped Deeb in the mouth, making it her kind of fight, evening things out, and killing it until a Dragon Screw in the ropes hurt her knee, giving Deeb a target to work over.

Every spot felt earned all the way up to the match-ending submission, as Deeb scored her second successful NWA Women's Championship defence on AEW programming. Thunder Rosa came out for a face-off afterwards. It looks like their rubber match is going down here, not elsewhere, and who would bet against them crushing it at this stage?
