8 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Aug 4)
2. A Rivalry Renewed
A minor Down here for Rob Van Dam and Katie Forbes ambushing Sami Callihan before he answered Eddie Edwards' World Championship open challenge. Of all the things 'The Draw' could be doing, why this?
That aside, Callihan and Edwards' match was exactly what you would have expected from the duo, albeit a slightly less chaotic showing from what we've seen from them in the past. Sami's constant usage of stiff strikes, alongside two Cactus Special piledrivers (one of which was on the ring apron), made it seem as if we could very well see a new World Champion crowned a mere two and a bit weeks into Eddie's title reign. Add in the character development from Callihan refraining himself from bringing a steel chair into play added another layer to Sami's Impact run.
A Boston Knee Party followed by a second to the back of the neck marked successful defence number two in Eddie's second run with the championship. Both his bouts with Trey Miguel and Sami Callihan were brilliant in their own unique ways, which simply goes to show how incredible a title holder the former multi-time World Tag Team Champion truly is.
With another open challenge lined up for next week, Eddie Edwards' reign with the gold will undoubtedly be remembered for years, even after he drops the strap.
