8 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling Slammiversary 2019
7. Frantic Opener
A last-minute addition to the card saw a four way contest between Willie Mack, TJP, Trey, and Jake Crist. As was the case with the opening six man contest from Rebellion, this was an excellent showcase of the X division.
Crist was on the receiving end of a double superkick as soon as the bell rang, and from there, the action never showed any signs of slowing down. Between all the flips, a unique spot came when TJP was being pinned by Jake while he had Trey locked in a surfboard submission hold, only for Willie Mack to fly in and break it all up with a double stomp.
The ending of the match was as high-paced as the start of the bout, as Crist performed a top rope Crist Cutter on Trey, before he was immediately splashed by the much larger Mack for the three count. An exciting ending to an entertaining match.
Thankfully, with these X division matches being added to pay-per-view cards at the last minute, they rarely ever disappoint. This one was no exception, although you could argue that Ace Austin should have been in here. That aside, it was an excellent start to Slammiversary.
