6. A ‘Good Enough’ Promo From Cody
It’s rare to rate anything Cody Rhodes does as “good enough” rather than “blow-away great.”
But Cody’s promo Monday night was not a barnburner of a speech, nor was it a revelatory one. After noting that John Cena bailed on appearing at Madison Square Garden – despite the history he had in that building – Rhodes took aim at Cena for being an obnoxious coach sitting on the sidelines calling in play, calling him a “god**** moron.”
Then Cody said he was going to deny his idol his vaunted 17th world championship by beating him at WrestleMania, and that Cena was going to learn “in real time that I’m the captain now.”
And that was it. There weren’t any fireworks to this promo, but not every week can be an explosive revelation or emotional outburst. If you needed to take it down a notch for a week, this was the one to do it since Cena will be on Raw next week. Thus, we got a “good enough” promo here.
