5. Tornado Tag Hits Its Stride
Heading into Monday night, expectations for the tornado tag between New Day and the LWO might have been high, but really, they just needed to continue taking positive steps forward. It’s the advantage of a New Day run that has been uneven at best during the past couple of months but has shown signs of leveling off.
Thankfully, the two teams turned in a fun, energetic spotfest that featured a couple of eye-popping moments that brought the fans to their feet: Rey Mysterio leaping from one side of the turnbuckle – around Dragon Lee – to hit a frankensteiner on Xavier Woods, followed by Lee executing a diving stomp on Kofi Kingston while he was trapped in a Tree of Woe; Dragon Lee nailing his leaping hurricanrana on Woods, sending him off the apron through a table on the floor; and Rey and Kofi trading finisher attempts and countering each other several times.
The match could have been a lot more, and it mostly will be remembered for the masked man who attacked the LWO at the end, but what was really needed here was a high-octane bout that gave fans a glimpse of what Dragon Lee can do and served as a reminder that both teams are mint. And for a short but effective burst in the latter half of the match, fans got just that. Not a great moment, but this was effective enough.
