8 Ups & 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Nov 21)
7. Demolishing Demolition
The New Day have fallen into a holding pattern. There's little differentiation between their weekly promos anymore, and while they're still popular with live crowds, they're in dire need of a change of circumstances. They've been Tag Team Champions for what feels like an ice age, and while they're undoubtedly WWE's strongest team at the moment, they could use some freshening-up.
Breaking Demolition's long-held record of 478 days as WWE Tag Team Champions seems inevitable at this point. They'll accomplish this goal if they can hold the belts until mid-December, but while the mission had largely reduced their reign to a joyless slog earlier in the month, WWE made a few adjustments to the New Day's act last night.
They've started acting more heelish in their mannerisms and actions. Last night's declaration of "demolishing Demolition" brought boos from the crowd, and they were only successful in retaining their belts against Cesaro & Sheamus through distraction. Xavier Woods played the trombone while Kofi Kingston tapped out, the referee didn't see it, and Kingston scored a roll-up win.
They'll defend the belts against Gallows & Anderson next week, and while the match means little on paper, The New Day's desperation to hold onto the belts has been well-played. It looks like they're going to have to run through Raw's tag teams one-by-one to break Demolition's record, which should make for exciting television.
