DOWNS…

5. Back-To-Back DQs

Riccochet Shinsuke Nakamura

It’s one thing to watch a match that drags on for nearly 15 minutes before an unsatisfying end, but a self-inflicted disqualification is about the dumbest finish imaginable.

Ricochet and Shinsuke Nakamura were having what could best be described as a “gentleman’s three,” a perfectly acceptable wrestling match that will be forgotten in a week’s time, when the action spilled to the outside. Nakamura grabbed a chair and swung wildly and missed.

Then Ricochet grabbed the chair, looked around and waffled Shinsuke, causing the DQ after nearly 15 minutes of action. Worse, Ricochet then started arguing with the referee for disqualifying him (which led to Nakamura sneaking up and attacking him), as if there was a justification for using the chair.

The very next match was the women’s tag match that ended after about five minutes of action when Nia Jax attacked everyone, causing another DQ. While it was a different type of disqualification, it still was poor placement, and nearly 20 minutes of in-ring action was rendered moot.

This wasn’t a high crime or misdemeanour, but it still felt like a booking misfire.
