8 Ups And 1 Down From WWE NXT 2.0 (Sep 21)
5. Grimes Trades Peace For A Victory
In what was the latest character thrown at the newly paint-splattered wall in an attempt to see what sticks, we had Joe Gacy taking to the ring to talk about how he was going to be the man to show everyone in NXT how to achieve peace. This coming after describing the same place in which he'd been involved in a brawl within earlier in the night as a "safe space".
Ironing out of gimmicks aside, Gacy can genuinely go, though, as evidenced in his brief showing against Cameron Grimes shortly after his self-help talk. In particular, a sudden handspring back elbow highlighted that this dude has more than a few tricks up his rolled-up sleeves. However, a shocking win over Grimes was a bit too much to ask, what with The Dogefather being arguably the most over man on the show all summer.
Grimes ultimately hit a Cave-In outta nowhere on the newbie for the win, only for Gacy to greet this loss by hugging a reluctant Grimes. If we have to nudge Grimes down another detour before giving him the shot at the NXT big-time he's earned, then so be it. Big spending, finer things in life-lover clashing with a human who is on a quest for inner peace? They may have just caught something here...
