8 Ups And 2 Downs From WWE NXT (Aug 31)

4. Gonzalez Bulldozes Kamea, Monet Next In Line?

Raquel Gonzalez

WWE.comWith Dakota Kai out of the picture (for now, at least), last week depicted Franky Monet making her case for being Raquel Gonzalez's next challenger for the NXT Women's Championship. Before she got her hands on Big Mami Cool, however, last night saw The Robert Stone Brand's Jessi Kamea test the waters for the group's new apparent leader.

It wasn't simply a case of the champ powering straight through the green lackey, though, as Kamea definitely rose to the occasion and put in arguably her best shift on the black and gold show so far. It's rare we get to see Gonzalez meet her match when it comes to the power game, but Kamea was just that at times before nailing the dominant belt holder with some unique kicks to keep the champ on her toes.

In the end, though, the unexpected competitiveness of the bout only seemed to brass off Gonzalez, opening the door for a closing stretch that saw her unleash a vicious clothesline and Chingona bomb for the victory.

Whether or not you agree with Monet being next in line for Gonzalez in the championship arena, which looks like the chosen path if their stare-down post-match was anything to go by, the NXT newcomer will likely offer the champ something different to overcome and could even help lure an even more violent Mami Cool out to play in the end.
