8 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Sept 12)
6. Women’s Triple Threat Gets Things Going
There’s a very easy gripe to lodge about Bayley defeating Women’s Champion Charlotte so early in her run on the main roster last week, and how it undermined her entire character as an underdog. But focusing on Monday’s episode, we got a “course correction” of sorts.
Sasha Banks was given her mandatory rematch for the title at Clash of Champions, but Mick Foley had a change of heart and inserted Bayley and then Dana Brooke (who slapped Charlotte in a brief flirtation with independence) into a match with Sasha for the #1 contendership. The women delivered a nice match that had fans following along, ending with Banks breaking up a Bayley pinfall attempt to pin the newcomer for the title shot.
The win gave Banks her deserved title shot and put Bayley on the losing end for the first time in a match no one can fault her for losing. It also knocks her down a little, which might sound weird to say, but Bayley is so much better fighting from underneath rather than being on top.
