8 Ways NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn Will Overshadow WWE SummerSlam

2. The Ladder Match

NXT doesn't tend to resort to what some consider "gimmick" matches all that often, but when they do, they're something very special indeed. The ladder match between Kevin Owens and Finn Balor for the NXT Championship should be no exception, and the stipulation adds an interesting new dimension to the story being told between these two. Each hold a victory over the other, and while the most predictable outcome would be for Balor to retain the title as Owens makes his final NXT appearance before moving to the main roster on a full-time basis, you never know what might happen. After all, the NXT roster is a little thin right now thanks to some unfortunate injuries, so this feud lasting another couple of months isn't too far-fetched a prospect. What Kevin Owens has said about earning his stripes in Brooklyn as Balor did in Japan is true, so the crowd will likely be split. As both of these guys are capable of pulling off high risk manoeuvres, you have to believe they're also going to turn it into one of the greatest ladder matches of all-time. That's admittedly a bold claim, but it's hard to imagine this being anything other than a modern classic thanks to the talent involved and the previous matches these guys have had. As of right now, SummerSlam doesn't feature any special matches as such. While those are often saved for specific special events like Extreme Rules and Hell in a Cell, it would have been nice to see at least one of the bouts on the card enhanced with a stipulation which would make it stand out from the crowd. That's sadly not the case, so with a ladder match main event, NXT TakeOver has the definite advantage!
