6. Brock Lesnar (2019)
Another successful Money in the Bank cash-in that underwhelmed, Brock Lesnar’s tenure with the briefcase came at what many consider the nadir of modern-day WWE booking, the year of Our Lord 2019.
Seth Rollins had finally been given the ball as WWE’s top babyface champion, but it coincided with some absolutely atrocious booking. WWE acknowledged his relationship with Becky Lynch, who had won both women’s world titles at WrestleMania 35, creating a babyface power couple. Their chief antagonists during that summer? Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans. No, seriously.
Meanwhile, Brock entered and won the MITB ladder match by entering the match at the last possible moment – Mustafa Ali literally had the briefcase in his hands and froze – then used it as a boombox on Raw for several weeks.
Lesnar’s cash-in came at Extreme Rules after Rollins and Lynch had defeated Corbin and Evans in a winner-take-all mixed-tag match. Brock flattened Rollins and won back the title Seth took from him at WrestleMania 35… only to lose it back to Rollins a month later at SummerSlam.
Brock winning the briefcase by entering a match for 30 seconds, then cashing in after one of the most dismal main events of 2019, followed by losing it in his next match, exemplified everything that was wrong about WWE booking in 2019. This was just part of a tapestry of bad decisions.
