8 Wrestlers Who Couldn't Wait To Ditch Their WWE Gimmicks After Leaving
6. Damien Sandow
The lasting legacy of Damien Sandow's WWE career will likely be his ability to get over with fans despite being consistently hampered by confusing creative decisions.
After a forgettable run with the company in the mid-2000s, Sandow returned to WWE in 2010 and made his main roster debut in 2012, portraying a condescending intellectual heel who excelled at cutting hilariously pompous promos on anyone who found themselves in his line of fire.
Following a stint teaming with fellow list entrant Cody Rhodes, Sandow would receive the biggest push of his career, winning the Money in the Bank match for a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. Unfortunately, Sandow's winning percentage was abysmal after his greatest triumph, and he would go on to join the small group of wrestlers who failed to successfully cash their briefcase in, after losing to John Cena with the belt on the line.
After being released by WWE in 2016, Sandow would debut in Impact Wrestling as Aron Rex shredding his former persona, marking the beginning of another stint that would see the former Sandow fail to reach his massive potential.
