There's nothing unusual about most wrestlers owning their gimmicks, because most gimmicks aren't as outlandish as The Boogeyman.

Part of why Marty Wright's goofy character got over was because of his complete and utter commitment to its absurdities. Wright held nothing back onscreen or off, pouring everything he had into a persona that demanded nothing less than total conviction, becoming one of his era's most notable midcard oddities in the progress.

Was Boogeyman the most sophisticated character or the best wrestler? Well, no, but he was memorable. That's more you can say for a lot of the period's midcarders.

Per Mike 'Nova' Bucci in his RF Video shoot interview, Vince McMahon adored this. The Chairman was so smitten with The Boogeyman character and Wright's full-on performances that he'd regularly roam around the backstage area yelling "I'm comin' to getcha!" at anyone he came into contact with. "Vince was in love with the gimmick," Bucci claimed, which partly explains why Wright was able to enjoy a relatively fruitful WWE career despite getting booted from Tough Enough for lying about his age.

One wonders how many handfuls of worms Vince stuffed down his employees' throats while this was going on.
