There was never going to be anyone else to cap off this list. Michaels and Hart were the two premier talents of WWE's New Generation, equivalent to a Hogan and Savage, or Rock and Austin, but in a considerably less financially successful era for the company.

Still, their careers as singles competitors are irrevocably intertwined with Michaels' first world title win coming over Hart in their classic WrestleMania XII iron man match.

While their charisma in the ring together was undeniable, the friction between the pair backstage was something of an open secret during that period and came close to boiling point on several occasions, including a 1997 backstage scuffle that saw Bret pull out a large chunk of Shawn's hair.

Of course, the pair were also embroiled in one of the most controversial moments in wrestling history, the Montreal Screwjob. At the time Michaels would repeatedly maintain his innocence, but later revealed in his 2005 autobiography that he was aware that the doublecross was taking place. Despite their history, the pair would eventually bury the hatchet live on television, in a January 2010 episode of Raw.

Apparently time really does heal all wounds...
