8 Wrestling Champions That Left For The Other Side

6. Mike Awesome As ECW Champion To WCW

Mike Awesome was the ECW World Champion when he shockingly appeared on WCW Monday Nitro on April 10, 2000. This was at a time when WCW, WWE and ECW were all competing against each other, so it was a huge shock to see the active ECW Champion on Nitro. Apparently Awesome was sick of ECW not paying him what he was owed, so he jumped to WCW without telling people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFx-_gKw8NA As soon as he showed up on Nitro (complete with fanny pack) to attack Nash, the announcers mentioned he was the ECW World Champion although he didn't bring the ECW Title onto WCW TV. It was a move that upset ECW, so four days later there was an agreement made where Awesome would defend the ECW Title against Tazz, who was working for WWE at that point. It was a surreal situation because a WCW wrestler was defending the ECW Title against a WWE guy. They had a short match that Tazz won pretty easily and Awesome left through the crowd. He wasn't sure how the ECW locker room would react to him, so that's why he left that way. Tazz ended up dropping the title to ECW mainstay Tommy Dreamer. Awesome ended up staying in WCW for one year until the company died and then he was brought into WWE in 2001 although he didn't have a successful career there.
