The SmackDown Elimination Chamber was every bit as good as that line-up promised.

It wasn't a perfect match. The timing between pods opening was a throwback to the "Titan Time" days of the early Royal rumbles and yet again the match failed to establish exactly why people would climb the chain link fence. But these are petty complaints in the face of an exceptionally-worked encounter.

Cesaro shone as expected, though WWE weren't prepared to go the distance with the 'Swiss Superman' this time around. Baron Corbin's early elimination cleared the way for the workhorse contingent to enjoy themselves out there though, again reflecting the potential of SmackDown's dynamic midcard.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn had some magic exchanges, Jey Uso was excellent as the hired (and failed) hitman, and Daniel Bryan showed remarkable versatility playing Kofi Kingston/Santino Marella from their Chamber experiences with him in years gone by. Pop.wav warmly received his eventual victory, but the Twitter buzz for the quality of the match said something about how well it would have gone down had a crowd been on hand.

No chance to rest on laurels though - 'The Tribal Chief' was on his way...
