8 WWE Superstars Lucky To Not Be Released
4. The Ascension
A year and a half on from their main roster call up, the pairing of Konnor and Viktor are well and truly on the WWE back-burner despite being standout performers in NXT.
As the longest-reigning NXT Tag Team Champions with a gimmick similar to historic tag teams like Demolition and The Road Warriors, The Ascension were poised to head the tag team revival. However, instead of having their string of squash matches followed up with victories over genuine teams, The Ascension was fed to The New Age Outlaws and used for the likes of JBL to get their reminiscing jollies. So long, credibility.
Unlike other teams, a tag team with such a powerful gimmick like The Ascension don't have the luxury of being able to reinvent themselves like Los Matadores for example. There really is no bouncing back.
What's worse is that neither Konnor nor Viktor are talented enough to stand out on their own even in NXT. Considering Konnor's suspension for a second violation of WWE's Talent Wellness Policy, it comes as a major surprise that the company didn't take the opportunity to rid itself of a failed team.
