9 Best WCW Luchadores
9. Hector Garza
Garza joined WCW in May of 1997, just a few months after wrestling a match on the WWF's Royal Rumble PPV (Garza teamed with Perro Aguayo and Canek to defeat Jerry Estrada, Fuerza Guerrera and Heavy Metal).
Although he never received anything resembling a push and spent most of his time making up the numbers in car crash six-man tags - usually on the minor shows - Garza was clearly a favourite of Lucha enthusiast Mike Tenay, who continually talked up the young sensations talents on commentary.
Garza was only in his early 20s when he signed with WCW, but he already wrestled like a polished pro. His most famous creation, the twisting turnbuckle-to-floor corkscrew plancha, never failed to take the breath away. He was one of the most fluid luchadores to wrestle for the Atlanta-based promotion.
After leaving WCW in 1999, Garza returned to AAA and eventually TNA where he was on the receiving end of a sizeable singles push (before he was deported when steroids were discovered on his person as he was trying to enter the states).
His fruitful post-TNA run in AAA was tragically cut short, however, when he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He died as a result of the disease on May 26, 2013. He was 43-years-old.
I would implore anyone that is unfamiliar with Garza's work to check him out on the WWE Network. He's well worth watching.
