Juice Robinson will have a fantastic tournament in 2018, but he won't be considered the major breakout star of the 28th G1 Climax. That honour will go to a man who currently plays third fiddle to Tetsuya Naito and EVIL in Los Ingobernables de Japon - SANADA.

The 2017 G1 Climax was the 2nd of SANADA's career. Cold Skull didn't manage to improve on his 2016 tally of eight points, and he wasn't able to pick up a marquee victory like his 2016 win over Tanahashi, but somehow the LIJ member has seen his stock rise further.

SANADA's freakish athleticism was a highlight of this year's tournament, and it is clear that New Japan has high hopes for the former TNA X Division Champion. 2018 may well see the beginnings of a main event push for SANADA, which will start in earnest with a huge G1 Climax.
