9 Highest-Rated WWE WrestleMania Matches According To Dave Meltzer’s Star System
6. Kurt Angle Vs. Shawn Michaels (****3/4 - WrestleMania 21)
With a moniker of ‘Mr WrestleMania’, it should come as little surprise to see Shawn Michaels feature for a second - and not the final time - on this list.
Following his 2002 comeback, HBK embarked on a run of classic WrestleMania matches including this first-time ever clash with Kurt Angle, who had picked up the baton of being WWE’s show stopper during Michaels’ four-year in-ring hiatus.
Two of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots did not disappoint, putting on a 27-minute epic which far outshined the main events of JBL vs. John Cena and Triple H vs. Batista. If it was not Michaels’ finest WrestleMania outing, then it was certainly Angle’s, and the 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist would eventually get the marquee victory by inducing a very rare submission from his legendary opponent, at the hands of the Ankle Lock.
Meltzer would rate the match 4.75 stars, the closest that Angle would get to the 5-star promised land during his career - and there's not much hope of that changing with his career finale scheduled to be against Baron Corbin at this year’s ‘Mania.
If the sight of him struggling through matches with Apollo Crews and Chad Gable makes you uncomfortable, watch this to remind yourself that Angle is an all-time great.
