9 Old-Timers That Won Wrestling Gold (And Shouldn't Have)
3. Ric Flair (WCW World Heavyweight Championship, 51)
Ric Flair is recognized as a 16-time World Champion, a fact that, even without his other notable accomplishments and groundbreaking career, automatically puts him in contention for Greatest Wrestler of All Time discussions. But it might do The Nature Boy's legacy some good to disregard his final WCW World Heavyweight Championship reign.
During WCW's spiraling last, Vince Russo-affected trainwreck of a year, Flair actually won the belt twice. Both times it lasted less than a week and only served to propel a ridiculous back-and-forth kerfuffle between Flair, Jeff Jarrett, and Kevin Nash.
That final reign, in which Nash literally gave the title back to Flair, and which stood for less than 24 hours, only looks substantially more meaningless after you consider that, just a month earlier, David Arquette legitimately "won" the belt and held onto it for 12 days.
WWE was wise not to put a major championship on Flair during his later runs with the company, instead having him win secondary titles and work alongside and provide guidance to WWE Champions, as was his role in Evolution.
