9 Reasons To Be Optimistic About WWE 2018

7. An Unpredictable Royal Rumble

Just a few short months ago, the 2018 Royal Rumble was looking like it may have been the most depressingly predictable in years. Jinder Mahal and Brock Lesnar seemed to be coasting towards WrestleMania 34 with their titles in tow, with John Cena and Roman Reigns the likely challengers at the Show of Shows. Cena or Reigns winning another Rumble? No thank you.

The Modern Day Maharaja subsequently dropped the WWE Championship to AJ Styles, and the landscape changed. Elimination Chamber 2018 is being marketed as a RAW-exclusive show, meaning the winner of the 30 man extravaganza is likely to come from the blue brand. Everything gets a little murkier from here on out.

Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, Rusev and others may well find themselves in line for a WrestleMania championship challenge. Seth Rollins and Finn Bálor could also be outside bets, taking home the Rumble before deciding to take on the SmackDown champ on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

Intrigue is key to a great Royal Rumble, and there is plenty of it ahead of the 2018 edition.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
