NXT is the safest bet in wrestling right now. The television show can often feel like little more than a bridge product, but it has been a very long time since an NXT TakeOver special failed to deliver. 2017 was a great year for the events, with some of WWE’s best matches taking place on developmental live specials. Tyler Bate vs. Pete Dunne immediately springs to mind, but Asuka vs. Ember Moon and Velveteen Dream vs. Aleister Black deserved great praise.

The sheer depth of WWE’s roster means that NXT’s future is looking as bright as it ever has. Triple H has made no secret of his desire for the developmental program to become a fully fledged brand in its own right, and every brand needs its own stars. The roster is great right now, and WWE will surely add to it in the new year.

2018 will see the next chapter in the careers of performers like Adam Cole, Andrade Almas, Kairi Sane and Killian Dain. The UK performers will hopefully have a larger role to play, along with a rejuvenated tag team division.

The highlight of the year may well be the long-awaited continuation of Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano’s feud. The former NXT Tag Team Champions will almost certainly collide during the summer of 2018, and it has the potential to be the best WWE feud of the year. I simply cannot wait.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
