9 Things SummerSlam Must Do To Eclipse NXT Brooklyn

8. Let Michael Cole Be Michael Cole

Back in January, Michael Cole fulfilled commentary duties for the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament alongside Nigel McGuiness. But this wasn’t the same micromanaged Cole we hear week-in-week-out on Raw. This version of Cole was actually allowed to be himself, calling the action as he saw it. And truth be told, he was awesome.

It provided a refreshing reminder that not only is Cole an excellent announcer when left to his own devices, but the overall show itself is so much better when you’ve got a commentary team that’s firing on all cylinders.

And surprise, surprise, at NXT Brooklyn on Saturday night, Mauro Ranallo was in the finest of form right from the first word from his mouth. It sets a high bar for the main roster—one that can only really be met if that free-speaking Cole is allowed to take center stage at SummerSlam.

Granted, that’s entirely unlikely to happen, what with the production team’s finickiness, but even just a modicum of freedom for Cole on commentary could vastly improve the show's aesthetic.
