9 Times Triple H Stole The Spotlight
2. Much Of 2012 And Half Of 2013…
April 2012 saw Brock Lesnar make his dramatic return to WWE after an eight-year hiatus. Apparently, a story like that was something Triple H wanted in on because the night after his first match back with the company saw them shoot an angle in which Lesnar “broke” Triple H’s arm, setting up a showdown for that year’s SummerSlam.
In fairness, there was nothing wrong with putting Lesnar into a feud with Triple H. The two had never faced each other before, and Lesnar’s mercenary attitude played into the idea of Triple H, now the on-screen COO, taking umbrage to his demands.
However, instead of being a one-and-done deal, the Triple H vs. Lesnar feud ended up lasting over a year. After their SummerSlam meeting, the pair met once more at WrestleMania 29 before staging a rubber match at Extreme Rules 2013—some 384 days after that original angle was shot.
Given Lesnar’s limited dates, it would’ve been preferable to have seen him clash with fresh opponents, rather than rehashing the Triple H match twice more. Plus, with Lesnar losing the ‘Mania meeting, at one point this supposed legitimate monster had lost two of his three matches since returning.
One match would've been fine, but three just felt like overkill.
