9 Times WWE Disrespected The Cruiserweights

8. Banning The Shooting Star Press And 450 Splash

Paul Lodnon was not a happy WWE Superstar„ in the summer of 2005. He really wanted the cruiserweight division to be something good but, whenever it looked like progress was being made, it would be undone almost instantly. London managed to get just one PPV title defense under his belt during his five month reign, defeating Chavo Guerrero at Judgement Day. The rest of the time he was on Velocity/house show duty. Then WWE announced that they were bringing in the talented triumvirate of Juventud Guerrera, Super Crazy and Psicosis, which was initially seen as a positive sign. Were WWE about to do something meaningful with and invest in the cruiserweight division? They might have, had Juventud not made a pig's ear out of a 450 splash on London on the July 14th edition of Smackdown. Vince McMahon made the rather rash decision to ban it and similar high-risk moves like the shooting star press. London was aghast and pleaded with Vince, who answered by booking the aforementioned Velocity loss to Nunzio. The cruiserweights already had to fight very hard to get fans to react to their matches, and taking away the moves that made them stand out from the heavyweights made it even harder and showed a degree of disrespect on WWE's part.
