6. Dropping The Ball On The Billy Kidman Vs. Paul London Feud
One of the only genuinely compelling WWE cruiserweight storylines came about entirely by accident. When Billy Kidman accidentally knocked out Chavo Guerrero with a bungled SSP, it led to him (in the storyline) becoming unsure of himself and not being able to follow through with the move, in fear of legitimately hurting another competitor. Kidman and Paul London were WWE Tag Team Champions and, naturally, London was not happy with the loss of killer instinct. It caused London and Kidman (who were ostensibly thrown together by WWE management since they both had dark hair) to lose their titles to the awful team of Kenzo Suzuki and Rene Dupree, when Kidman walked out mid-match. This led to a match between the two at No Mercy. London and Kidman stole the show that night, with fans actually invested in the action and curious to see how the storyline would play out. Kidman won the match after he countered London's SSP and then finally hit his own, adding another post-match while London was strapped to a stretcher. Did London return a few weeks later, seeking vengeance for Kidman's cowardly attack? Erm, not quite. Instead, the two clashed once more on Velocity and then the feud was abandoned. WWE could have easily squeezed another high-profile match out of the conflict, but they decided to scrap it so that the real stars like John Heidenreich could get that much-needed TV time.
