The crowd reaction in the building for Randy Orton dropping John Cena with an RKO Monday night was deafening, but longtime fans who were around for the entire rivalry in the 2000s and 2010s know better.

Cena/Orton was almost universally a disappointing feud whenever they crossed paths. The matches were largely boring and failed to live up to WWE’s own hype. So why should fans expect anything different?

Given Cena’s performance at WrestleMania Sunday and his recent history in the ring - when was his last truly watchable singles match? - a main event between these two could die in the ring.
