There are few people who are as beloved in any sport or industry as Sami Zayn is in NXT. When the announcers referred to him as the heart and soul of NXT, its not hyperbole. Sami really has been the essence of the developmental territory for the past few years. So watching Zayn perform at TakeOver against Shinsuke Nakamura in a losing effort two days before he wrestles for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania, its impossible not to think that weve just seen Samis last match in NXT (at least for a while). It really felt like a swansong for Sami in the promotion he helped transform into the little powerhouse it is today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi1fi4cWoLE It really was a fitting match if it is his farewell to NXT. Zayn and Nakamura tore the house down, and Sami got a solo spotlight at the end to wave goodbye to fans as he prepares for his Mania bout Sunday. With the influx of new talent in NXT, it only makes sense that Sami moves on exclusively to the main roster.
