9 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE Raw (Feb 17)

DOWNS…

6. Beware Smiling Drew

Just a word of caution here: Please WWE, don’t turn Drew McIntyre into a grinning goof in the lead-up to WrestleMania 36.

McIntyre came to the ring and goofed around with the fans, noting that he needed to point at the WrestleMania sign, but since Charlotte Flair had already done it, he needed to top it, so he got everyone to join him, so the whole arena pointed together.

Cute, but let’s not forget that it was McIntyre’s intensity and no-nonsense attitude that helped get him over. This doesn’t mean he shouldn’t show his personality – he absolutely should – but WWE has a tendency to overdue stuff like this, and there’s just an inherent fear that they’ll get sucked in, and soon Drew will be hugging small children on the way to the ring or something like that.

Sure, this could be a big overreaction, but better to flag it now than to look up in April and find out he’s now “Making a Difference” McIntyre.
