9 WWE Championship Wins That Were Completely Overshadowed

8. 'Macho Man' Randy Savage - WrestleMania IV

WrestleMania IV was unique in that instead of a traditional event the show was a one-night tournament to crown a new WWF Champion. The belt was vacated after Andre the Giant defeated Hulk Hogan in controversial fashion before handing the strap over to 'The Million Dollar Man' Ted DiBiase. Jack Tunney wasn't having this at all, and the belt was held up.

The tournament was won by 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, but that wasn't the real story. The story was still Hogan, who came out in the main event to help Savage win the title and elbowed his way into the closing celebrations. This began the one-year story that ended with Hogan defeating Savage for the WWF Championship at WrestleMania V.

Sure, this was Savage's great moment, but Hogan still somehow managed to make himself the centrepiece of the entire tale (a familiar story, unfortunately).

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
