As momentum was building towards the big showdown between Team Authority and Team John Cena at Survivor Series 2014, Luke Harper became the latest to throw his hat into the ring to join The Authority. Triple H & Co relented and allowed the former Wyatt Family member to join. His reward? A match for the Intercontinental Championship against a beaten-down Dolph Ziggler.

It was another kick in the teeth for Team Cena, the demoralisation of one of their key parts. The odds were stacking up higher against our hero ahead of the company-changing showdown. Things were looking good for Team Authority, however, who now had both the Intercontinental and United States Champions on their team.

Lost in all of this was the emotional coming of age of Luke Harper. Known as Brodie Lee on the independent scene, Harper was an 11-year veteran who had suffered a few bouts of bad luck on his way to WWE before eventually signing in 2012. Brodie Lee wining the Intercontinental Championship was a big deal for fans of the man, but the whole thing was overshadowed by the Cena/Authority story that spawned it.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
