SummerSlam 1997 saw one of the most infamous botches in professional wrestling, as Owen Hart got a piledriver ever so wrong and just about broke Stone Cold Steve Austin's neck in the process. The show must go on, though, and after a panicked Owen stalled for time, Austin was able to roll him up for the weakest 1-2-3 in the history of professional wrestling.

Austin won the match, but it was the damage done to his neck that got everyone talking after the event. It was this moment that in-turn led to his early retirement in 2003, when he was just 38-years-old. Interestingly enough, Austin was back on RAW just six weeks later in 1997, attacking the man who broke his freakin' neck.

Oh, and Austin won the Intercontinental Championship that night. I always forget that.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
