3. WWF Canadian Championship
One of WWEs current -- and WCWs former -- mid-card titles is the United States Championship. The belt is often considered as being on par with -- or slightly under -- the prestigious Intercontinental title. However, most fans probably didnt realize that prior to the US belt, the Federation had a Canadian Championship -- and no were not talking about Lance Storms version. The Canadian Championship came about as a result of the companys purchase of the International Wrestling promotion based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. As a result, one of the promotions main attractions, Dino Bravo, joined the Federation in 1985. Initially, Bravo was billed as the Canadian Champion when the WWF toured the Great White North. While theres some debate over whether a physical belt existed or was simply used as a gimmick for Bravo, it was a non-issue as the title only lasted five months. The Canadian title was done away with in January of 1986 when Bravo left the company. He reportedly quit prior to a main event match with Hulk Hogan in Montreal. The announced matchup was cancelled as the company feared Bravo would get a bigger babyface reaction from the hometown crowd. Dino left the company in protest and the championship was abandoned. Bravo ultimately returned to the WWF just one year later, but the Canadian title didnt make it.
