CM Punk vs. Jon Moxley II is on for All Out 2022.

AEW finally confirmed the main event for its 4 September pay-per-view on last night's Dynamite, doing so just four days before the big event. Punk is to challenge for Moxley's newly-unified AEW World Championship after signing an open contract initially left in the ring by the Blackpool Combat Club man during his show-opening promo.

Moxley was scathing in his criticism of Punk. Ripping into the deposed World Champion in his Chicago, Illinois hometown, Moxley claimed that Punk wasn't the man people thought he was, then pulled out the open contract and placed it down in the ring. As Mox was making his leave, AEW producer and long-time Punk associate Ace Steel walked down, picked the contract up, and headed to the back.

Later, Punk walked to the ring for an emotional promo, teasing stepping away from wrestling entirely. A fired-up Steel then hit the ring and his best friend, smacking Punk in the mouth in an attempt at drawing fire from the hometown hero, who responded in kind, sparking to life in an incendiary diatribe that rallied Chicago behind him.

Punk ended up signing the match contract up in the bleachers, surrounded by his people. The main event is on.

Moxley defeated Punk to unify the AEW World Championships on last week's Dynamite. Punk's broken foot played into the bout's story, with Mox exploiting the injury to win in just three minutes.
