Alberto Del Rio Released By WWE For "Unprofessional Conduct"

Former WWE Champion reportedly fired for striking an employee.

WWE.com have announced the shock release of former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio. The website listed "unprofessional conduct, and an altercation with an employee" as the reasons for Del Rio's release. They did not include the traditional "wish him well in his future endeavors" line. The firing of Del Rio comes after the star had largely been removed from the WWE main event scene after being in the World Title mix for the duration of his WWE run. According to Rob Feinstein of RF Video, Del Rio slapped a member of WWE's social media team, although that should be treated purely as a rumour at this stage. Months ago it was rumoured that Del Rio planned on quitting WWE when his contract expired this year. During his WWE run, Del Rio was a two-time WWE champion, a two-time World Heavyweight champion, and a Royal Rumble winner. WWE has been making numerous budget cuts throughout each division of their company. Last week, several NXT trainees were cut, as well as long time employee Mark Yeaton, and Senior VP of Creative Eddie Feldmann. The company also announced it would cease production of WWE Magazine, after nearly 30 years of publication. As of now, it looks as if the Del Rio release is due to disciplinary action as opposed to budget cuts. With the release of Del Rio, it leaves Torito as the lone Mexican-born member of the WWE's main roster. The company released the original Sin Cara as well as Del Rio's former personal ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez throughout the past several months. We'll keep you posted on any incoming news about this situation.
