Finally we reach last year’s opener, and once again it features Ziggler and the IC strap. Rey Mysterio might have featured in the most opening matches, but Dolph holds the record for the most opening singles matches at the PPV. He’s been in four, three of which involved the Intercontinental title, and his record is one win, two losses and one no-result (damn you Nexus).

His solitary win came here against The Miz. The Miz was just starting his Hollywood gimmick at this point, complete with ‘hands off the moneymaker’ pleas. His facials in general are hilarious throughout. The Miz might just be the most underappreciated guy on the WWE roster come to think of it.

The match isn’t a million miles away from being a very good RAW match, and there’s a little a sequence towards the end that was really impressive. Dolph hits the famouser, but in a confused stupor Miz immediately pops up and hits the Skull Crushing Finale. It’s good for a two count, and Miz continues selling the famouser after the near fall. Miz is great.

Dolph picks up the win after a Zig Zag.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
