6. Edge Vs. Lance Storm - 2001
Oh Lance Storm, god bless you. His entire gimmick was that he has no gimmick, that he was deathly serious. He made up for this by being a complete machine in the ring, as good as anywhere in the company at this point. He seemed to understand pro wrestling, and made sure everything he did counted. For instance, towards the end of the bout Edge has him in a sit-out pinning position. Storm kicks out, but in doing so he also kicks Edge in the head. Little things like that really make me enjoy watching Lance Storm matches.
It was around this time that the Invasion was going on, so the commentary throughout focuses on that angle. Paul Heyman and JR are the team, two of the best of all time, so they could have been discussing haddock recipes and it would still be great. Christian comes down at the end and accidentally spears Edge, but it isn’t enough to keep the (not yet) Rated R Superstar down, and he picks up the win. The Intercontinental strap returned home.
