9. ECW One Night Stand 2006 (Rob Van Dam vs. John Cena)
“Die Cena, Die.”
It was a riot at One Night Stand 2006, as John Cena defended the WWE Championship against Rob Van Dam. The crowd absolutely abused the young man. Seriously, Roman Reigns may be met with boos, but this ECW crowd wasn’t angrily indifferent to Cena, they absolutely hated him. To his credit, Cena takes the boos like a champ, and plays the perfect heel for the crowd. Van Dam likewise plays a perfect babyface/audience surrogate, throwing in a variety of acrobatic maneuvers that pop the crowd big time.
While not the greatest wrestling match, the audience is what makes it worth watching. Their switch from pure venom to pure jubilation as Van Dam wins the WWE title is a sight to behold, and its genuinely heartwarming to see RVD celebrate his title win with the crowd and the locker room.
