Kevin Owens demonstrated just why he deserves to be a Champion and major threat in WWE at Night of Champions. Despite having a move-set consisting mainly of  brawling and power moves, Owens demonstrated some clever psychology by focusing on Ryback’s finisher arm. It helped make him look like both a smarter and more vicious wrestler, which is something his character needs desperately, especially since he has started walking away from so many challenges like a chickens**t.

At the same time, Ryback did all that he could to keep up with Owens who, despite his less-chiseled physique, was the better wrestler in the contest. Though he did demonstrate some power moves, and did a great job of selling the damage to his arm, Ryback spent the majority of the match getting worked over by Owens. Despite several attempts to fight through the pain, Owens used a rake of the eyes to distract Ryback and roll him up to win the match and the championship.

While it was an interesting finisher that recalls to more ‘classic’ heel tactics, the match could’ve used a bit more time. Ryback would’ve benefited greatly from having more time to show his endurance while fighting through Owens’ offense, which in turn would’ve made the match more dramatic. In the end, Owens finally got what he deserves in a major title win on WWE’s main roster, while Ryback will need to re-think his direction going forward.
