Who else but the longest reigning champion in the history of the belt? Finn Bálor has been eating at the top table in NXT since arriving in 2014, and no one was surprised when he usurped Kevin Owens at the WWE Beast in the East special in July 2015. Having built his career in Japan, it was a poignant moment for the Demon.

Bálor held the belt for 292 days before dropping it to Samoa Joe at a live event in April 2016, and he truly did defeat all comers along the way. After defeating Owens in a rematch for the title at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, Bálor would defend against Apollo Crews and Samoa Joe twice, before the latter defeated the Irishman just days after he became the new record holder.

Finn Bálor was NXT's most dominant champion, as well as its most iconic. He looks somewhat lost without the big X around his waist, and whilst he will surely regain his footing sooner rather than later he will still go down as one of the greatest NXT Champions in history. As of right now, he is its greatest.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
