There's a reason that this persona lasted for over half of The Undertaker's career.

Initially reluctant to bring back the fully-blown undead mortician in an era that it probably wouldn't have worked in, 'Taker went back to the drawing board and came up with something much better. Here we have The Deadman.

A hybrid of every persona that came before it, 'The Last Outlaw' was an undead creature of the night that dressed like the American Badass as far as in-ring gear went, fought like the 'Lord of Darkness' from nearly a decade before, stuck his tongue out like the leader of the Ministry of Darkness and had an affinity for hats, coats and 'Rest In Peace' like The Undertaker of old.

The irony here is the fact that even though he was honouring every gimmick that he had adopted over the years, this new facet of his personality ended up becoming the most lasting of them all. The truth is that the legend also found a second prime under that hat, delivering the best in-ring work of his entire career between 2006 and 2013.

Now the definitive version of The Undertaker, this was a necessary resurrection that helped move the character forward by returning to the past - and it was one that took him to greater heights than ever before.
